Get to know the history of the South Princess City that in 2018 received the title of Material and Immaterial Heritage of the Country, a fact that remains unique at this time. We invite you to meet our natural resources, antique buildings and culture, in a tour full of surprises and flavors.
Walking in our Historical Center, with its antique buildings, navigating through the Lagoa dos Patos (the Ducks Lagoon), visiting or hosting in one of our ‘Charqueadas’ (salted meat production facilities, from the time of slavery), museums, tasting typical dishes, like the ‘Carreteiro de Charque’ (Rice with salted beef) and our traditional sweets & deserts that got a nationwide recognition.

ITINERARY FOR FEBRUARY 10, 4-HOURS TOUR
Navigating through Pelotas’ history
Get to know Pelotas navigating through our main river, which gave the name to the city and is recognized as Cultural Heritage of RS State. From the salt of the Charqueadas, to the sweeties of Portuguese food tradition, see our vision through the waters.
Includes: guided visitation to Laranjal beach and boat navigation on the Pelotas River and São Gonçalo’s channel (2 hours), with fruits, sweets and a glass of sparkling wine.
Cost per person: 50 US dollars (exchange may vary). Minimal 10 and max 20 passengers per group (20 persons is the max. boat capacity).
ITINERARY FOR FEBRUARY 11, 4:30-HOURS TOUR
Pelotas: Brazilian Cultural Heritage
A tour visiting the main old buildings recognized as State Cultural Heritage, theathers, the Central Market, and the ‘Pedro Osório’ Square. Journing into an ancient Charqueada and the Metropolitan Cathedral, finalizing in a Tradicional Sweets Facility, to appreciate and taste a typical certified sweet.
Includes: Guided visits, acess to interior of the Charqueadas and the Cathedral, private transport and sweet degustation.
Cost per person: approximately 50 US dollars (exchange may vary). Minimal 10 and max. 30 passengers per group.
Reservating both tours, price is 95 US Dollars per person (exchange may vary).
Accommodation during the 7th International Rice Conference is suggested in the following hotels. Please note most suggested hotels do NOT have English versions of their websites, but they can be booked over the internet (www.booking.com and similar websites). Payment may be done online or at the arrival – please consult the hotel website and/or online booking and payment options for each hotel. All hotels, however, should accept/answer emails written in English.
GPS locations are supplied below for helping you finding your way to your hotel, as well as to the main Conference locations.
When arriving at Pelotas, simply Copy/Paste it on Google Maps or similar softwares, and you’re ready to go. Both Porto Alegre’s and Pelotas’ airports are served by official taxi service. Uber service is also operational in both locations. Payments in cash may be done only in Brazilian Real (BRL); the only official Brazilian currency. It is NOT usual to give tips for servicing people in Brazil (taxi drivers, hotel clerks, porters, etc).

Please book your hotel in advance, because the city of Pelotas will be hosting some other cultural and technological events, concomitantly to the 7th International Temperate Rice Conference.
We have also prepared a SUMMARIZED MAP with the approximate location of the suggested hotels, as well as the main Conference direction. The Conference Organizing Committee will do its best to provide transportation from the hotels (excluding Provincia Casa Hotel) to the event location, but this is not settled at this time.

ARRIVING SAFE AT PELOTAS
SUGGESTED AIRWAYS DESTINATIONS
Although the city of Pelotas have an International Airport (PET), currently only one flight arrives at, and departs from PET daily, whose origin/destination is Porto Alegre International Airport (POA). Please see map below.
For international visitors, we suggest to direct your arriving and departure flights to the Salgado Filho International Airport at Porto Alegre (POA). When entering Brazil, you may arrive to POA directly from Portugal (TAP Airways), or alternatively by several airlines through the São Paulo / Guarulhos International Airport (GRU), Rio de Janeiro / Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport (GIG), or also through Montevideo (Uruguay) Carrasco International Airport (MVD). Several other options are available to arrive at Porto Alegre’s Salgado Filho International Airport (POA).
There is a daily arriving/departing flight between Porto Alegre (POA) and Pelotas (PET) operated by Azul Airways (https://www.voeazul.com.br/en/home). If you intend to fly POA-PET-POA, please book your tickets soon as this is a usually demanded flight, with a small aircraft.
SHUTTLE BUS: PORTO ALEGRE - PELOTAS - PORTO ALEGRE
The Conference will make available a paid shuttle bus exclusively for participants of the 7th ITRC. If you intend to land at Porto Alegre and would like to book a seat in the shuttle bus, please observe the schedule below. Porto Alegre (POA) to Pelotas (PET) – departs on Feb. 09th (Sunday), 13:30pm, from POA airport, to the recommended hotels at Pelotas. Pelotas (PET) to Porto Alegre (POA) – departs on Feb. 12th (Wednesday) from the Conference Closing Session, directly to Porto Alegre (POA airport and surrounding hotels).
